The three Hanged Men’s Legend

While on a visit in Beaumont, the Emperor Charles V is attacked by three hawkers coming from Auvergne. The lawbreakers are arrested by the Earl’s soldiers. The clock strikes noon.

The prisoners are chained up and exhibited in the streets of the city. The gallows is ready. The hangmen are waiting. It’s soon one o’clock.
